Additional Relevant Information

Gareth has worked across the broad spectrum of physical activity, sport, and health for over twenty years, including extensive work in and around Exercise on Referral. He has also co-authored a book on the subject which was published in 1999 (“Exercise on Prescription – Cardiovascular Activity for Health, Butterworth Heinemann) and provides guest lecturing on Graduate and Post-Graduate courses at Keele University, Wolverhampton University and University Centre Shrewsbury.

He has extensive experience in working with a range of sport, health and other organisations at all levels to lead strategic planning, development, delivery, and evaluation. He has over ten years experience of securing/distributing funding and developing, managing multi agency activity programmes. As a British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist, he also has extensive experience of developing and managing the design and delivery of sport and exercise programmes, from elite level sport to Exercise on Referral.

Gareth led the precursor development work on the first regional physical activity audit that resulted in the development of the first regional Physical Activity network (PAN-WM) and resourcing for regional infrastructure capacity. He has recently been advising on the development of a countywide Exercise referral scheme.

He has proven ability to deliver in a wide range of work areas relating to sport, health and physical activity and  is highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed to ensuring that physical activity is an integral part of strategic and delivery agendas. Gareth has authored behaviour change texts, including books and articles and has developed and delivered health training courses and resources at several levels.

Gareth is a Regional Course Director, Tutor, and Assessor for the British Association for  Cardiac Prevention and Rehabilitation Exercise Instructor training programme and established operates the Physical Activity intervention service for Cancer Patients in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, Powys alongside MacMillan cancer care and Shropshire Public Health.

Gareth enjoys keeping healthy by cycling and running. In his non-work time he has coached Judo for many years, his students ranging from complete beginners to a member of Team GB Judo at  the 2012 London Olympics and Commonwealth Games medallists.

Gareth and Suzanne have worked together for many years as partners in various organisations and have developed an excellent working relationship that has evolved into the formation of their own organisation ‘Lifestyle Connect’.
